when you eat at the refrigerator, pull up a chair.

if and when you decide to eat, own it. know that you deserve to be fed and pampered and that hunger is not something to be ashamed of.
here’s to a healthier relationship with food, starting today.

remember this. the current ultrathin beauty ideal has not always existed and does not exist in every other country. there is no such thing as one concrete definition of beauty.

when you reach a certain goal in recovery — whether it is a weight or a behavioral or emotional goal — you might stop and suddenly feel grief for the loss of your eating disorder or an aspect of your eating disorder.
it seems strange, but this is to be expected. it is important to recognize that your eating disorder served a purpose, despite how detrimental it was to your health or how miserable it made you.
take a moment to remember what your eating disorder did for you at that point in your life, then recognize the fact that you no longer need these maladaptive coping skills to deal with triggering situations in your life. embrace the new coping techniques you have learned in recovery, but also let yourself mourn your eating disorder when you feel sad about letting it go.

Kate Halchishick for Healthy is the New Skinny

Healthy Is the New Skinny is a place for girls and women to join together and celebrate true beauty. We don’t believe in just telling ourselves to “Love our bodies and Love who we are.” We believe in living out our commitment to love and to health and to beauty. We are dedicated to exposing girls to role models who are thinking big and making their dreams happen – all while living a healthy lifestyle. We are bringing a more fit and joyful look to fashion and working with models who want to be role models. The #1 wish for teenage girls is to be thinner: we’re showing them they deserve to wish for so much more.

eating disorders are so much more than simply what we see on the outside. weight issues are only a small, superficial representation of the plethora of issues going on inside.
on that note, remember that it is about more than just food and eating. try to deal with those issues first. it is important to reach a healthy weight so that you can think clearly enough to address the larger part of the iceberg.

“Being thin may get you noticed, but it will not get you seen, and it will never get you truly, fiercely loved. Only all four dimensions of your beauty — spirit, soul, mind, and, yes, body — will get you that. Both men and women are trapped in this maze of self-scrutiny, weight or shape preoccupation, preening and primping, searching and spending. But love doesn’t dwell at the end of this maze, even if you do find your way through.” —Courtney Martin, Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters
